Sovereign Sound Studios was founded in 1998 by audio engineer/producer Aidan Barton. Aidan studied audio engineering at the Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), graduating in 1999 but returned to university for another year to study a Bachelor of Arts Diploma in sound.

Aidan went on to work in the live music industry for some time (click here for more info) whilst continuing to record local bands. Sovereign Sound Studios soon became a haven for heavy music, so much so that Aidan's services were wanted in other parts of the country to work with bands such as 'Daysend' (NSW) and Melbourne's 'The Berzerker' (VIC).

After working in many studios on both the east and west coast of Australia and being sole sound engineer/tech on several australian tours for both national and international bands, Aidan returned to Perth, purchased a premises and set up Sovereign Studios as it is known today.

Interstate bands have travelled to Perth to record at Sovereign. Accomodation is provided free for bands coming from interstate.
